Hotspot Control — Android application
Effective date: 22 July 2026 · Last updated: 22 July 2026
The short version
- You can use Hotspot Control without creating an account.
- Your session history, speed-test results, device nicknames and settings are stored only on your phone.
- We do not collect your location, hotspot passwords, network names (SSIDs), IP/MAC addresses, contacts, or a list of your connected devices.
- Like most free apps, we use Google services (Analytics for Firebase, AdMob ads, and Google Play billing) that process limited technical data. These are described below.
- We do not sell your personal data.
1. Who we are
Hotspot Control (the "App") is published by Growly Media ("we", "us", "our"), the data controller for the purposes of applicable data-protection law. You can contact us at any time at filip@growlymedia.net.
Registered entity / postal address: [full legal entity name and registered address — fill in before publishing].
2. Scope
This policy explains what information the App does and does not process, and describes the third-party services it relies on. It applies to the App distributed through Google Play under the package name eu.utilitynest.wifi.hotspot.portable.lte.internet.speed.check.app.
3. Information stored only on your device
The App is designed to keep your data on your phone. The following are saved locally (using your device's app storage) and are never uploaded to us:
- Hotspot session history (start/end times, duration, and the battery/network readings your device reports for that session);
- Speed-test history (download/upload/ping results you have run);
- Device nicknames and any device details your Android version chooses to expose to the App;
- Your app settings and preferences (units, theme, limits such as timer, battery and data caps).
This data stays on your device until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App. Uninstalling the App removes this locally stored data.
4. Information processed by third-party services
To provide a free, ad-supported app with optional subscriptions, we rely on the following services. Each processes only limited technical data, and each has its own privacy policy that governs how it handles that data.
Service Purpose Typical data processed
Google Analytics for Firebase Understand overall app usage and stability (aggregated) App-instance identifier, app version, device model/OS, coarse region, and automatically-collected app events (e.g. first open, session start, purchase and ad-impression events). We do not send custom events that identify you.
Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads) Show banner and interstitial ads to non-Pro users Advertising identifier, ad interactions, approximate location derived from IP, and device/technical data used to serve and measure ads. Governed by your consent choice (see section 6).
Google Play Billing & RevenueCat Process and validate subscriptions / purchases ("Pro") Purchase tokens, product identifiers, subscription status and an anonymous app-user identifier. We never receive your full card number or Google account password.
Speed-test servers (e.g. Cloudflare) Measure real download/upload speed and latency A speed test transfers data to/from a test server, which — like any internet request — sees your IP address and standard connection metadata. Tests run only when you start them.
Their privacy policies:
- Google (Firebase, AdMob, Play Billing): policies.google.com/privacy
- How Google uses data from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- RevenueCat: revenuecat.com/privacy
- Cloudflare: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
5. Advertising
For users who are not subscribed to Pro, the App shows ads provided by Google AdMob. Ads may be personalised or non-personalised depending on your consent choice and your region. Pro subscribers see no ads.
6. Your consent choices (EEA/UK & US)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the App presents a consent message (via Google's User Messaging Platform) before personalised ads are requested, as required by GDPR and the ePrivacy rules. If you are in a US state with applicable privacy laws, you are offered the corresponding choice. You can change your choice at any time from the App's Settings → Privacy / Ad choices. Where you decline consent, the App serves non-personalised ads instead.
7. What we never collect
- Your precise or background location;
- Your hotspot password or Wi-Fi network name (SSID);
- IP or MAC addresses of your connected devices;
- A raw list of devices connected to your hotspot (modern Android does not expose this to apps, and the App does not attempt to obtain it);
- Your contacts, photos, microphone or camera;
- Any data that would let us identify you personally on our own servers — we do not operate a user account system.
8. Permissions and why they are used
Permission Why
Internet & network state Run speed tests and detect your connection type.
Wi-Fi state / change Wi-Fi state, Nearby Wi-Fi devices Read hotspot-related status and support the optional local-only hotspot feature. Never used to determine your location.
Location (Android 12 and older only) Older Android versions technically require location permission to start a local-only hotspot. It is not requested on Android 13+ and is never used to track you.
Usage Access (special access, optional) If you enable it, the App reads device-level mobile-data statistics on your phone to estimate hotspot data consumption. These statistics never leave your device.
Notifications & foreground service Show the ongoing session notification and warn you when a timer, battery or data limit you set is reached.
9. Legal bases (GDPR)
- Consent — for personalised advertising and non-essential analytics where required.
- Performance of a contract — to provide subscriptions you purchase.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the App secure, stable and functional, and to serve non-personalised ads that fund the free version.
10. Data retention
Data stored on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the App. Data processed by the third-party services above is retained according to their own policies. We do not maintain our own server-side profile of you.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Because most of your data lives on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly by clearing data in the App or uninstalling it, and by adjusting your ad-consent and advertising-ID settings on your device. For requests concerning data processed through the services above, contact us at filip@growlymedia.net; we may direct you to the relevant provider where they act as controller. EEA/UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority.
12. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Ads are configured to comply with Google Play's families and ad policies.
13. Security
We rely on your device's built-in app-sandbox protections for locally stored data and on the security practices of the reputable providers listed above for anything processed off-device. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we design the App to minimise the data involved.
14. International transfers
The third-party providers listed above may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States, under the safeguards described in their respective privacy policies.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves or as legal requirements change. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
